CHAPTER 5 — Walking Away, Finally Free


The lobby slowly emptied, but I remained.
Not because I had to.
But because for the first time in years… I could breathe.
Daniel approached me cautiously, like I was someone he didn’t recognize anymore.
“Please,” he said softly. “We can fix this.”
I almost laughed.
“Fix what?” I asked. “The betrayal? The humiliation? Or the fact that you only valued me when you thought I was powerless?”
He had no answer.
Of course he didn’t.
“I loved you,” I said quietly. “More than I should have.”
My voice didn’t break this time.
“But I finally love myself more.”
I turned.
Victor was waiting by the doors.
“Ready?” he asked.
I nodded.
And as we walked out together, I didn’t feel like someone who had just lost everything.
I felt like someone who had finally taken it all back.
Behind me, the empire I helped build crumbled without me.
Ahead of me?
Something stronger.
Something mine.
