CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Behind the Marriage

“Eleven years,” Victor said, his voice low but carrying across the room. “That’s how long she stood beside you, isn’t it?”
Daniel swallowed.
I stepped forward.
“I built your empire with you,” I said, my voice steady now. “Every expansion. Every deal. Every risk you were too afraid to take alone.”
Murmurs grew louder.
“They thought I was just the wife,” I continued. “The quiet one. The invisible one.”
I looked directly at the mistress.
“You thought I was replaceable.”
Her confidence was gone now. Completely.
Victor folded his hands behind his back. “What none of you knew,” he said, “is that she walked away from her inheritance to build something of her own.”
The crowd stiffened.
“She refused my help. Refused my name. She wanted to succeed on her own terms.”
Daniel turned to me, panic flooding his face. “You—you never told me—”
“You never asked,” I replied.
