CHAPTER 4 — The Fall of a Carefully Built Lie


“Effective immediately,” Victor announced, “all partnerships between Rosemont Health Foundation and Daniel Carter Enterprises are terminated.”

The reaction was immediate.

Shock. Outrage. Fear.

“That’s half his revenue,” someone whispered.

“No,” Victor corrected calmly. “That’s all of it.”

Daniel staggered back slightly.

“You can’t do this,” he said, desperation finally breaking through his polished facade. “We have contracts—”

“You had integrity,” Victor interrupted. “That mattered more.”

Security stepped closer.

“And as for you,” Victor added, finally glancing at the mistress, “assault charges will be filed.”

Her face drained of color.

“This is insane—I didn’t—she—”

“The cameras don’t lie,” he said coldly.

For the first time, she looked at me—not with arrogance, not with superiority—

But with fear.

Real fear.
