CHAPTER 3: THE UNCLE’S REVELATION

The hospital director stepped forward again.

“This is not the only thing you should know,” he said.

Marcus frowned.

The man looked at Khloe—softening for just a second.

“She’s my niece.”

The room went silent again.

Isabella blinked. “What?”

The director didn’t even look at her.

“Khloe’s mother died in my hospital. I promised I would protect her. I just didn’t expect I’d have to protect her from you.”

Marcus turned back toward Khloe.

Everything in his life suddenly rearranged itself.

The marriage.

The distance.

The secrets.

The affair with Isabella.

It all collapsed into one truth:

He had let the wrong woman into his world.

Khloe tried to sit up, but pain stopped her halfway.

Marcus immediately reached for her.

But she flinched.

That flinch hit harder than any punch.

“I didn’t know,” he whispered.

Khloe’s voice was weak but steady.

“But you didn’t stop it either.”

That sentence stayed in the air like a judgment.

And for the first time, Marcus couldn’t answer.
