Chapter 2 — The Moment Everything Breaks

The scream cut through the celebration like glass.

“STOP THE CAKE!”

Mia burst into the ballroom, knocking a silver spoon from Elena’s hand.

Gasps erupted.

Adrian turned instantly.

“Security!” he shouted. “Get her out!”

But Mia didn’t stop.

Her hand trembled as she held up her phone.

On the screen: a blurry, damning photo.

Adrian standing alone in the kitchen.

A small vial in his hand.

Pouring something into the frosting.

Elena froze.

The world seemed to tilt.

“That’s not real,” Adrian said quickly, stepping forward. “She’s lying. This is fabricated—”

But then another voice cut in.

Calm.

Professional.

A man in a dark suit stepped forward from the crowd.

“I’m a forensic physician,” he said. “Let me test it.”

He dipped a swab into the cake frosting.

Silence swallowed the room.

Seconds passed.

Then the solution changed color.

Dark amber.

Dangerous.

A sedative compound.

A collective inhale swept through the guests.

Elena’s hand slowly fell from her dress.

Adrian’s expression cracked.

“This is insane,” he snapped. “I didn’t—”

But he was already backing away.

Too fast.

Too guilty.

“Stop him!” someone shouted.

Security moved.

Adrian bolted.

Tables crashed.

Champagne flutes shattered.

And in less than ten seconds, the groom of the most prestigious wedding in the city was tackled face-first onto the marble floor.

Handcuffed.

Breathing hard.

Still denying everything.

But Mia wasn’t looking at him anymore.

Because she had found something worse.
