CHAPTER 4 – THE HUNT BEGINS

The safe house was supposed to be secure.
It wasn’t.
Glass shattered at 2:13 a.m.
Elena rolled off the couch instantly, pulling her weapon.
Three intruders. Tactical gear. No insignias.
Not police.
Not FBI.
“Whitlock cleanup unit,” Ruiz whispered through the radio.
Gunfire erupted.
Elena moved fast despite her condition, blocking, dodging, controlled precision.
But then—
A hit.
She stumbled.
One of them grabbed her arm.
“You ruined everything,” the man hissed.
She looked up at him.
“No,” she said quietly. “You did.”
Then she slammed her elbow into his throat.
Ruiz burst in seconds later.
The attackers were gone.
But one message was left behind on the wall.
Written in black ink:
WE STILL OWN THE STORY
Elena stared at it.
May you like

“No,” she whispered.
“You don’t.”
