Chapter 1: The Sound Behind the Silence
The party downstairs was loud—too loud. Laughter echoed through the marble halls, glasses clinked, and music masked something far more sinister.
But above it all… a faint, desperate sound.
“Dad… please…”
It was barely audible. A whisper trapped in wood and steel.
Daniel froze.
At first, he thought it was his imagination—jet lag, exhaustion, guilt. But then it came again. Weak. Trembling.
“Help me…”
His blood turned to ice.
That voice… it was his son.
Daniel dropped his suitcase. The laughter below suddenly felt grotesque, like a celebration built on something rotten. He moved slowly at first, then faster, following the sound down the hallway… toward the back of the house.
