Chapter 2 : The burden of promises and surprises awaits.

The low, cutting laughter started the moment she stepped through the grand archway of the penthouse villa.
Beneath the glittering crystal chandeliers, the city’s wealthiest socialites stood in tailored silk, their whispers spreading like wildfire through the crowded room. A young pregnant woman, wearing a simple, inexpensive maternity dress, stood entirely alone near the terrace doors, out of place among the sea of diamonds.
A blonde socialite stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the polished marble floor as she flashed a cruel, mocking smile.
“Don’t tell me the baby’s father abandoned you at a time like this too?” she asked loudly, ensuring her voice carried across the room.
The surrounding guests immediately smirked, hiding their snickers behind their champagne flutes. The young woman lowered her head, her fingers trembling slightly as she gently held her baby bump, fighting back the tears stinging her eyes. She didn't argue. She didn't shout.
Then suddenly—
A thunderous roar shook the entire structure.
The heavy glass windows vibrated violently as the massive spotlight of a private helicopter swept across the ballroom ceiling. The champagne glasses on the tiered display tables trembled, some sliding across the damp linens.
The elite crowd froze, rushing toward the terrace to see who was arriving with such overwhelming authority.
Seconds later, the heavy mahogany double doors burst open.
A powerful man in a bespoke navy-blue suit walked into the hall, carrying a massive bouquet of rare, pristine white roses. It was the reclusive real estate tycoon, Julian Vance—the man who owned the very ground the villa was built upon.
Ignoring the stunned politicians, the local executives, and the speechless hosts, Julian marched directly down the center aisle, his focused gaze locked entirely on the isolated woman.
He stopped right in front of her, his expression instantly softening as he placed a protective hand over hers.
“I’m sorry I’m late, my love,” Julian said, his deep voice carrying a resonant clarity that filled every silent corner of the room. “The transatlantic flight was delayed, but the marriage registry is finalized.”
The absolute silence that followed was suffocating.

The blonde socialite’s face turned a ghostly, hollow pale, her fingers going limp as her glass slipped and shattered against the marble. The guests who had been snickering moments earlier instantly lowered their eyes, terrified to make eye contact with the man who held their corporate credit lines in his hands.
Julian turned his head slightly, his icy gray eyes passing over the crowd with a cold, absolute warning before he guided his bride-to-be toward the waiting exit. Every mocking smile had vanished into the shadows, leaving the room to realize they had just insulted the true matriarch of the Vance empire.
