Chapter 3: The Boardroom Coup

Three days had passed. The Sterling Enterprises quarterly shareholder meeting was the most anticipated event of the financial season. Held in the glass-walled penthouse of the Sterling Tower, overlooking the sprawling city skyline, it was a display of absolute power.
Beatrice stood at the head of the massive mahogany table, wearing a sharp, blood-red designer suit. Julian sat to her right, looking exhausted, dark circles under his eyes. The room was filled with the city's wealthiest investors, murmuring in hushed tones.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Beatrice began, her voice dripping with artificial charisma. "This quarter has been our most profitable yet. Under my guidance, and Julian's upcoming appointment as CEO, Sterling Enterprises is unstoppable."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that, Beatrice."
The heavy glass doors of the boardroom swung open. The room fell dead silent.
Chloe walked in, wearing a sleek, tailored black suit that fit her flawlessly. Her hair was pulled back sharply, and her makeup was minimal but striking. She looked nothing like the crying, broken girl on the living room floor. She looked like a conqueror. Right behind her was Eleanor, carrying a black leather briefcase, and beside them was a man in a sharp grey suit—Uncle Thomas.
Julian shot out of his chair. "Security! How did they get up here?"
"They got up here because I own thirty percent of this company, Julian," Thomas said calmly, stepping forward. "Or at least, I am supposed to."
Beatrice’s face turned the color of ash. "Thomas. What is the meaning of this? You signed away your rights years ago."
"I signed away nothing," Thomas replied, gesturing to Eleanor.
Eleanor opened the briefcase and pulled out thick stacks of documents, sliding them across the polished table to the lead investors and board members. "These are the original, unaltered drafts of Richard Sterling's will, complete with his forensic accountant's hidden ledgers. They detail exactly how Beatrice Sterling funneled millions into offshore accounts and forged signatures to usurp control of the trust."
The boardroom erupted into chaos. Board members snatched up the papers, their eyes scanning the undeniable proof.
"This is a lie!" Beatrice screamed, her carefully crafted facade crumbling into madness. She pointed a trembling finger at Chloe. "You! You little street trash! You set this up!"
Chloe walked slowly toward Beatrice, the rhythmic clicking of her heels cutting through the noise. She stopped inches from her former mother-in-law.
"You told me I would never belong in your world," Chloe said, her voice cool, steady, and loud enough for everyone to hear. "You were right. I don't belong in a world built on theft, lies, and cruelty. But I do belong here. As of this morning, Thomas has appointed me as his proxy on the board of directors."

Julian stared at Chloe, his jaw slacked in disbelief. "Chloe... please. You don't know what you're doing."
Chloe looked at the man she once thought she would spend her life with. "I know exactly what I'm doing, Julian. I'm taking out the trash."
