Chapter 1: The Morning After
The sun rose over the Las Vegas Strip, casting golden light across the glass towers of the Sterling Crown Hotel.
Inside the Presidential Suite, Dominic Hale woke with a satisfied smile.
Vanessa stretched beside him, admiring the skyline.
"I could get used to this," she purred.
Dominic laughed.
"Once the merger closes, suites like this will be normal."
Neither of them knew that the room had already been locked from the outside.
At precisely 8:00 a.m., the television turned on by itself.
"Attention, Mr. Dominic Hale. Please report to the Executive Boardroom on Level 50 immediately."
Dominic frowned.
"What is this?"
His phone buzzed.
A company-wide email.
Mandatory Executive Meeting. Attendance Required.
Signed—
Evelyn Whitmore, Chairwoman.
His blood ran cold.
Ten minutes later...
The private elevator opened onto the executive floor.
Twenty-four board members were already seated.
Legal counsel.
Federal auditors.
Compliance officers.
Outside the glass walls stood security personnel.
At the head of the long walnut table sat Evelyn.
Gone was the beige cardigan.
She wore an elegant ivory business suit, diamond earrings, and a calm expression that commanded the room without a single word.
Dominic stopped walking.
"Evelyn..."
"No."
She raised one hand.
"In this room..."
May you like
"...it's Madam Chair."
The room fell silent.
